Valentine’s day holds a lot of things for a lot of people, but more often than not it is a night filled with exceedingly high expectations and very low return. In high school, I can remember girls getting their feelings hurt like crazy over not having a date to the dance or a someone special to be with. But it wasn’t just that. People not having a date isn’t a big deal. What always hurt my feelings for other people is how those girls FELT –
Not worthy of a date (list goes on)
Personally, I have had my feelings hurt a few times, but not many. I chose years ago to either make it time spent with family, with girl friends, with other couples….and to show love to EVERYONE. Plus, Blondie’s Birthday is the 13th, so we get to spend ALL SORTS of times celebrating that instead, so I never really miss it.
Little known fact that in 1969 Pope Paul VI DELETED the date from the Roman Calendar. It should have stayed dead…(and thank goodness for Wikipedia only being down for ONE DAY or you wouldnt know that fact). I think that he got that it wasn’t a great holiday in itself, and if you could delete a Holiday off the freakin’ calendar, it might as well be V-day!
SO MY QUESTION IS, why don’t we do like the Latin Countries? They are all SORTS of passionate, yes we know. AND they celebrate “Día del Amor y la Amistad” (Day of Love and Friendship) where they (get THIS) see people perform “acts of appreciation” for their friends. So they use it as a “Pay It Forward” type of day.
